The Wander Wisconsin
trip leader (and a co-leader) is responsible for a group
of up to 12 campers. Wander Wisconsin trips will maintain
a 6:1 (camper:staff) ratio and at least two trip leaders
will always accompany a group on a trip. The Trip Leader
is responsible for planning and implementation of two to
twelve night camping trips for youth ages eight to fifeeen.
The nature of the Wander Wisconsin program requires that
trip leaders have responsibility for the safety, supervision
and leadership of their group.
Note: The application for the Wander
Wisconsin Trip Leader position is the same application completed
by applicants for other summer camp positions with Wisconsin
Youth Company (Wander Wisconsin is a program of Wisconsin
Youth Company, Inc.).

Information for Summer Camp Job Applicants

All persons hired will be asked to submit an acknowledgement
of a T.B. skin test signed by a physician. T.B. skin tests
will be provided at orientation for those who need them.
Staff hired will also agree to a criminal background check
through the state of Wisconsin.
All persons hired will be notified of the pre-camp orientation
and training dates which apply to them. These sessions are
mandatory and essential for success in each position. They
are also a valuable and memorable part of the Summer Camp
employment experience and an opportunity to get to know
and relate to fellow staff. On-going
feedback and training will be available throughout the summer
with the hope that Wander Wisconsin will prove to be a positive
personal and professional growth experience for every staff
member.
Required certifications for Wander Wisconsin staff are Wilderness
First Aid, CPR and Lifeguarding. Wander Wisconsin offers
reimbursement for re-certification only.
Benefits for Summer Positions
All summer positions include the following benefits: Current
school-year employees not enrolled in AFTER SCHOOL's insurance
program and summer only employees may claim up to $100 toward
a personal health care expense that occurs during the summer
employment period. Current school-year AFTER SCHOOL employees
already enrolled in AFTER SCHOOL's health insurance program
receive $100 toward their July and August premiums.
As an additional benefit, summer employees wishing to enroll
their own children in an applicable AFTER SCHOOL day camp
program may do so according to the following rate: First
child at no cost; second child -50% of regular program fee;
third and subsequent children - 100% of regular program
fees. Staff must be working during the weeks the child is
enrolled. Special programs such as Wander Wisconsin and
Middle School U may be substituted for a maximum of one
week at the cost difference. Subsequent weeks of special
programs are full price.
